The grams-per-kilogram calculation

Daily protein target equals body weight multiplied by the selected grams-per-kilogram factor. At 75 kg and 1.6 g/kg, 75 × 1.6 gives 120 g per day. The calculation is exact for those inputs; whether 1.6 is suitable is a separate nutrition question.

Choosing a factor is separate

Different goals and circumstances use different protein ranges. Training type, total energy intake, age, kidney disease, pregnancy, and clinical nutrition needs can alter the discussion. This page does not select a factor from a diagnosis, body-composition goal, or meal pattern.

Daily total versus meal timing

A daily number can be met in one meal or distributed across several meals, but this calculator does not model timing, digestion, amino-acid quality, or tolerance. A food diary and professional advice may be more useful when the question concerns a specific diet or symptom.

Prevent a pounds-and-kilograms error

The multiplier uses kilograms. A person entering 165 as though it were kilograms when it is actually pounds produces a seriously distorted result. Convert pounds to kilograms first, and use a current measured body weight rather than a goal weight unless a clinician has advised otherwise.

Read food records accurately

Protein grams on a label refer to edible portions and serving sizes, not simply to the total weight of a food. Keep the daily target as a planning estimate and review it with a qualified professional when health conditions or dietary restrictions are involved.

Check the arithmetic in context

The 120 g example can be checked by dividing back: 120 divided by 75 returns the chosen 1.6 g/kg. That simple reverse calculation catches an accidental factor or unit error. If intake is tracked over days, count protein from the portion actually eaten, not from a package's total contents. Supplements, fortified foods, and mixed dishes can be included in a food record, but this page cannot judge safety or adequacy for an individual condition.

Body weight can be an imperfect basis when it changes quickly or when a clinician has provided a different reference weight. The calculator deliberately exposes the factor so its effect can be seen: changing 1.6 to 1.2 g/kg moves the 75 kg example from 120 g to 90 g. That is an assumption change, not a measured physiological result.
