Different estimates answer different questions

Body-metric pages use height, weight, or circumference to produce screening or reference figures. Nutrition pages turn a stated energy, protein, or water assumption into a planning number. Pregnancy and ovulation pages count days from menstrual information. The sleep page only adds clock minutes. A result from one group cannot validate a result from another.

Before using a calculation, identify whether you need a measurement, an estimate, a calendar count, or a schedule. That distinction determines what should be recorded with the result: a measured height and weight, a dated food log, the first day of a period, or a bedtime.

Make the uncertainty visible

These tools show their arithmetic but do not examine the body, diagnose a condition, or know personal history. A factor chosen for protein, water, activity, or calorie planning is an assumption. Circumference and weight readings vary with method and timing. Menstrual cycles and sleep cycles vary too.

Use a dated series of comparable observations when a trend matters. Keep units, source records, and the assumption used with the output. That makes it possible to tell later whether a changed result came from the body, a new measurement, or a different input rule.

Choose the calculation by the missing quantity

Use BMI, body-fat, or ideal-weight pages only when the question concerns the particular index or reference equation they implement. BMI combines mass with squared height; the Navy estimate uses tape circumferences; Devine uses height and a sex constant. They can give different-looking numbers because they are not rival measurements of the same thing. BMR estimates resting energy, while TDEE adds an activity assumption and a calorie-deficit page begins with a maintenance estimate already chosen. A macro result converts a calorie allocation into grams, whereas protein uses a grams-per-kilogram factor. The formula should match the question before any number is interpreted.

Calendar pages also have separate starting facts. Pregnancy timing uses elapsed days from the first day of the last menstrual period under the conventional 280-day count. Ovulation timing subtracts an assumed luteal phase from cycle length and does not confirm ovulation. Sleep-cycle and bedtime pages perform opposite clock operations: one adds assumed cycle minutes to a bedtime and the other subtracts them, plus sleep-onset allowance, from an alarm. Running pace is different again: it divides recorded seconds by measured distance. A result is only reproducible when its date, unit, and starting event remain attached to it.

Use estimates as records, not verdicts

A useful health calculation leaves an audit trail. Record where weight, height, circumference, elapsed time, cycle date, or activity factor came from; retain the unit; and state whether it was measured, recalled, or assumed. For a trend, repeat the same method under similar conditions instead of comparing a tape measure with a scan or a watch estimate with a laboratory test. A decimal output can be exactly calculated from uncertain inputs, so more displayed digits are not more certainty.

Symptoms, a prescribed diet or fluid limit, medication effects, pregnancy concerns, disordered eating, unexplained change, persistent sleep problems, or exercise warning signs require the context of an appropriate clinician. The value of these pages is transparent arithmetic and a clearer question for that conversation, not a substitute for it.
