Pack count converts coverage into whole packs
An 80 m² surface with 5% allowance becomes 84 m². At 6 m² of labelled coverage per pack, 84 divided by 6 gives exactly 14 packs. The calculation assumes the pack’s coverage applies at the intended installed thickness, not simply to the fluffy material as it leaves the wrapping.
Thickness and coverage are linked
A roll may cover more square metres when spread thinly, but its declared thermal performance changes with thickness. Do not use coverage printed for one cavity depth to fill another depth. Gaps can outweigh a neat total
Pieces around joists, sockets, pipes, and irregular bays need cuts that create waste. Compressing a batt to force it into a narrow gap can reduce its effectiveness, while leaving a void creates a bypass. Measure bay widths and add an honest cutting allowance instead of assuming every pack unfolds perfectly.
Assembly conditions are separate
Moisture control, ventilation, wind washing, fire stops, electrical clearance, and access can govern whether insulation may be installed in a location. A pack count does not determine condensation risk or the wall’s final U-value. Follow the product instructions and applicable building requirements for the whole assembly.
